Sullia: The brother of a murder accused allegedly issued death threats to a Hindu activist, following which Hindu activists gathered near Bellare police station on Saturday night demanding immediate arrest and strict action against the accused.

Prashant Rai, a Hindu activist from Bellare and the manager of a firm lodged a complaint against Safreed with Bellare police about the alleged abuse and death threat. The complainant said that Safreed called him over the phone and verbally abused and threatened to kill him.

Safreed is said to be an SDPI activist and is the brother of Shafiq of Bellare, who is an accused in the Praveen Nettaru murder case.

Tensions prevailed for some time as more than 100 Hindu activists gathered near the police station when Rai went to lodge his complaint. The crowd expressed their anguish over the incident and demanded swift action.
