Shivamogga: Aggressive elephant attacks mahout; caught on CCTV cameras

Shivamogga: In a shocking incident, a mahout was attacked by a captive elephant at Sakrebailu elephant camp near Gajanur here.

The male elephant, identified as Mannikanta, attempted to attack the staff which was caught on CCTV cameras nearby.

Elephant handler Imran was taking the tusker from camp to the forested area. As they crossed the road, the elephant suddenly stopped and later attacked mahout Khaleel who was following behind them on a scooter.

Fortunately, Khaleel got off the scooter and ran away from the angry elephant. Manikanta chased Khaleel until he was out of sight.

In the meantime, an unidentified woman, who was getting down from a car parked beside the road, had a close shave as the elephant kept chasing the mahout.

According to sources, Manikanta had shown unruly behaviour in the past. He is notorious in the camp for his agression and had twice attacked the mahout.
