Bodies of 2 youths drowned in Srinivasa Sagara reservoir recovered

Chikkaballapura: The bodies of two youths who had drowned in the reservoir of Srinivasa Sagara Dam on Saturday, September 10, were recovered on Sunday, September 11.

Sachchidananda (20), an MBBS student from Mysuru had gone to Srinivasa Sagar reservoir along with his friends for a swim. It is said that Sachchidananda did not know how to swim and started drowning. Hearing the pleas for help, Naresh Babu from Gauribidanur taluk rushed to the rescue. However, he too was trapped by the swift currents and drowned.

Though a search and rescue operation was launched immediately, the bodies could not be traced till 7 pm on Saturday. The search operation had been halted for the night and resumed on Sunday morning.

The bodies of both youths have been recovered on Sunday morning in a joint operation carried out by a team of firefighters and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel, PSI Pradeep Poojary of the Rural Police Station said.

The bodies were sent to a nearby hospital for post-mortem, he added.
