A verbal altercation between two auto drivers took a fatal turn resulting in the death of one of them near Jalahalli cross here.

The deceased has been identified as Siddique, a resident of RT Nagar. Police have arrested Ajay in connection with the case.

The incident took place at around 11.30 pm when Ajay had parked his auto at the rickshaw stand. Shortly after, Siddique arrived at the stand and he called out to Ajay as ‘magane’ (a slang word in Kannada which also means son) while asking for water.

Angered by the reference, Ajay got into a verbal argument with Siddique. Things took an ugly turn when Ajay pulled out a knife and stabbed Siddique three times.

Other auto drivers who witnessed the incident rushed Siddique to a hospital but he succumbed to his injuries.
