Mysuru: One of the elephants named Lakshmi among other Mysuru Dasara elephants, gave birth to a male calf, on Monday, September 12.

Lakshmi gave birth near Kodi Someshwara Temple of Mysuru Palace.

She and the newborn are now separated from other elephants and shifted to the restricted area of Mysuru Palace.

Meanwhile, the forest officials informed that both mother and calf are healthy and safe.

It can be recalled that about 15 years back, an elephant named Sarala among other Dasara elephants, had given birth during the Mysuru Dasara preparations in Mysuru Palace. The calf was named Chamundi (named after ‘Nadadevate’ Goddess Chamundeshwari).
