Teenager’s death after falling off bus: Driver, conductor arrested

Mangaluru: Police have arrested the driver and conductor of the bus in connection with the death of a PU student after falling from a bus.

The accused –identified as  Karthik R Shetty (30), a resident of Kuppepadav, and  Dhamsheer (30), a resident of Amblamogaru — were reportedly arrested on September 18. They face charges under the section IPC sections 279, 336, and 304.

Both the accused have been produced before the court. They were on duty on the bus when Yathiraj, a PUC student fell off the bus and was mortally injured.

On September 7, Yashraj (16), a resident of Byderepalu in Mastikatte in Ullal, was critically injured after falling off a city bus near Adamkudru. Though he was rushed to a hospital with serious head injuries, he could not be saved.

Yashraj was declared brain dead on September 13 after which his organs were harvested with the consent of his parents, Tyagaraj and Mamata Karkera.

Following the teen’s death, the family demanded strict action against the erring bus operators.
