‘The Lion King’ fame singer and actress Marva Hicks dies at 66

Washington: “The Lion King” fame Hollywood singer and actress Marva Hicks passed away at the age of 66.
As per the reports in The Hollywood Reporter, the statement from her agent Tanya Young Williams read that she passed away on Friday, September 16, in New York City.
However, the exact cause of her death is not disclosed yet.
Reportedly, Marva’s husband Akwasi Taha and family said in a statement shared with The Hollywood Reporter, “It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our dear Marva Hicks Taha. Our beloved wife, family member and friend will be greatly missed and remain marvellous in our hearts forever. The love she had for her husband, family, friends and entertainment community knew no bounds. We have been deeply touched by the incredible outpouring of love. Thank you for your compassion and prayers”.
Marva was born in Petersburg, Virginia, and earned a degree from Howard University.
She began her career as a musician and released her debut record featuring the tune “Never Been in Love Before”, under her own name in the year 1991.
She was known for her performances in “Broadway in Motown: The Musical”, “The Lion King”, “Caroline or Change”, “Lena Horne, The Lady and her Music” and several others.
She had also made TV appearances in shows like “Mad About You”, “Star Trek: Voyager” and others.
Marva also won three Helen Hayes Awards, recently this year.
