Udupi: Inter-district two-wheeler thief arrested

Mangaluru/Udupi: Udupi district police have arrested an inter-district two-wheeler thief from K R Pete in Mandya district and seized five motorcycles from his possession.
The arrested person has been identified as Govindappa of Gadag district, the police said.
The accused had stolen many scooters and motorbikes from Doddanagudde and Sode Mutt area under Udupi town police station limits. He was also involved in two-wheeler thefts in Mangaluru’s Bunder and Belthangady in Dakshina Kannada district.
Police traced the location while investigating a complaint from a delivery boy with an online shopping company here that his scooter was stolen while he was delivering a product to a customer. Based on CCTV evidence, the culprit was traced to K R Pete in Mandya and arrested on Wednesday.
Govindappa had served seven years in jail in a murder case in Ranebennuru police station limits in Haveri district. Five motorcycles worth Rs 2 lakh have been seized from the accused. He was produced before the court on Thursday and remanded in judicial custody, the sources said.
