The state government has taken a decision on the tune and duration of Naada Geethe – Jaya Bharatha Jananiya Thanujaathe.

It may be noted that there had been discussions regarding capping the duration of the state anthem in the past too but they remained inconclusive. Now the government has given its nod to cap the duration of Nada Geethe at two minutes and thirty seconds.

The song will be sung in the tune composed by Late Mysore Ananthaswamy. Penned by well-known poet Kuvempu, the Nada Geethe was officially declared as the state anthem in 2004.

The state anthem is sung at all government functions and in a few cases, the rendition of the song would last for 7-8 minutes. Concerns were raised that the Divyang or the elderly people might find it difficult to stand for such long periods, people had voiced demands to cap its duration and for uniformity in the singing style.

Based on the recommendations of the committee chaired by SR Leelavati, the Department of Kannada and Culture had tabled a proposal regarding capping the duration of the song at two minutes and thirty seconds without diluting the song’s meaning. Chief Minister Bommai has now given his consent to the proposal.

Minister V. Sunil Kumar informed the same via a Twitter post.
