Around 15 students of computer science had visited the Hoode beach for a weekend frolic. Some among them ventured into the sea for a swim. Suddenly, a huge wave hit the beach and three unfortunate students were caught in the rapid wave.

Locals said the beach was rough as it was a new moon (Mahalaya Amavasya). The spot of the accident was an identified danger zone. Unlike Malpe beach, the beach at Hoode does not have any lifeguards.

Locals said they had warned the students about the rough conditions and the dangers it posed. However, the students ignored the warnings, they added.

Also unlike Malpe Beach there are no lifeguards in Hooda.
