Mangaluru: The District Court on Wednesday, October 12, ordered to attach the movable property of Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) for not paying compensation to the land owners after having the land acquired for a bus terminal project near the Pumpwell Circle.
As per the sources, based on the court order, the court’s ‘Amin’ reached the MCC office with the order copy and attached the property.
On receiving the information, MCC Commissioner Akshy Sridhar reached MCC and said that he had appealed to the court for an extension till October 25 and that the court extended the deadline.
Earlier, in the year 2008, MCC had acquired 7.23 acres of land from 33 families for bus terminal construction near Pumpwell Circle. Out of 33, 16 families had approached the court seeking higher compensation.
Although, the MCC had to pay Rs. 3.48 crores as compensation to 16 families, it (MCC) had managed to bring a stay on the litigation.
Currently, as the stay period ended, the court had ordered to attach MCC property.
Under the PPP model, the MCC had acquired 7.23 acres of land for the project with an additional proposal of acquiring 11.59 acres of land. Due to several reasons, the proposal wasn’t accepted.
