Mangaluru: A couple has been accused of availing a loan of over Rs 26 lakhs after pledging fake gold ornaments with a finance company.

The accused are identified as Hastimal Parmar and his wife Sangeetha, residents of Monkey Stand.

As per the complaint filed by the finance company at Mangaluru South police station, the couple had pledged ornaments weighing 795 grams for availing of a loan. An amount of Rs 26,99,910 was sanctioned to them against the pledged ornaments. However on October 1 when the ornaments were scrutinized by experts it was found that it was fake.

The company then sent a notice to the couple seeking repayment of the loan but when they failed to do so a case of cheating and breach of trust was filed against them.
