Mangaluru: The NHAI authorities have requested 15 more days to clear the tollgate near Suratkal NITK and have requested for the cooperation of the public until then, said MP Nalin Kumar Kateel.
Speaking to reporters, Nalin Said that Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has already assured the removal of the tollgate in the Lok Sabha. He has also held a few meetings with the concerned officials.
Further, Nalin noted that the NHAI officials had asked for 15 days’ time for the removal of the tollgate at NITK. The issue involved NMPT and Navayuga company and has several outstanding questions about road maintenance in the future. It will take at least 15 days to find a solution to these outstanding issues, he added.
“We are not playing any politics in the issue of tollgate clearance… We are not opposed to non-political peaceful struggle,” he said.
Police action is wrong
“It has just come to our attention that the Mangaluru police went to the houses of the tollgate agitators on Saturday night and issued notices. The action of the police is not correct, neither I nor any MLA has instructed them to leave at night and issue a notice,” Nalin Kumar said. MLA Dr. Bharat Shetty also concurred with this opinion.
