Murder convict absconding from Kerala arrested in Udupi

Udupi: A rape and murder convict absconding from prison in Kerala was arrested in Udupi, police said.

Rajesh (39), a resident of Neyyattinkara taluk of Thiruvananthapuram district, had escaped from prison on December 12, 2020.

In 2013, Rajesh had been convicted of the rape and murder of a minor girl that took place in 2012. He had been sentenced to death, however, later the sentence was commuted to life imprisonment.

Udupi police said that based on credible information that the convict was residing in Udupi, an operation was launched. Rajesh was arrested from Nailady in Brahmavara taluk, police said.

Meanwhile, Kerala Police took him into custody and produced him before the court in Kundapur.  He has now been taken to Kerala as per the order of the court.

Udupi District Superintendent of Police Hackay Akshay Machindra commended the police team for a stellar job.
