Bengaluru: In a tragic incident, three members of a family died allegedly after setting themselves on fire at their residence in HSR Layout, police sources said.

The deceased have been identified as Santhosh Kumar (54), his wife Oman Santhosh (50), and daughter Sanusha Santhosh (17). Santhosh, a native of Kerala, ran a spare parts manufacturing business and lived with his family at HSR Layout 3rd stage.

Early morning on Friday, locals informed the emergency numbers about thick smoke being noticed at Santhosh’s residence. HSR Police and fire tenders rushed to the spot. As the house was found to be locked from the inside, they had to break the front door. The charred remains of three persons were found within the house.

Police are treating the case to be a suicide. Though the exact reason remains unknown, police suspect financial troubles may be behind the extreme step. A preliminary investigation suggests that kerosene was used to start the fire, police sources said.

Meanwhile, the bodies have been sent for an autopsy. Santhosh’s family in Kerala has been informed of the unfortunate incident. Further steps will be taken once his family arrives, police sources added.

A case has been registered at the HSR Layout police station.
