Love affair, not old rivalry, behind murder of 33-year-old: Police

Bengaluru: In a plot twist, the motive for the murder of a 33-year-old man in Yelahanka turned out to be a love affair and not a revenge plot as it was claimed earlier. The victim’s wife and her paramour have been arrested by the Yelahanka police on the charges of murdering her husband who objected to their illicit relationship.

It was earlier believed that the victim Chandrashekar (33) was beaten to death to avenge an old incident where his wife had hit her harassers with sandals. However, it has now been revealed that the murder took place due to a love affair, police said.

Chandrasekhar’s wife Shwetha (22), a resident of Kondappa Layout, and her lover Suresh alias Muli Suri (25) were arrested, they added.

Chandrashekar, a native of Andhra Pradesh’s Hindpur, had shifted to Bengaluru about 6 months ago and worked as a weaver. Shwetha, an MSc graduate was in love with Suresh, but married Chandrashekar at the insistence of her parents. Even after marriage, Shwetha and Suresh continued their love affair which was opposed by Chandrashekar, police said.

According to police Shewta hatched a plan to kill her husband. On October 21, Shwetha called Suresh to her home and hid him on the terrace.

He was opposed to Shwetha’s illicit relationship with Suresh. At around 9 PM she asked Chandrashekar to go to the terrace on some pretext. Later when Chandrashekar was sleeping on a mat, Suresh beat him with an object and fled from the spot. Shwetha got her injured husband admitted to a hospital to avoid suspicion, where he later died, police added.

The murder plot came to light during interrogating Shwetha, police said. Initially, she claimed that the assault was an act of revenge for an old incident. During their stay in Hindpur Shwetha had filed a case accusing a few persons of harassing her. Later the village elders brokered a truce between the miscreants and Shwetha in the presence of police. At this time police had asked Shwetha to hit the miscreants with sandals. She had claimed that Chandrashekar was hacked to death to avenge this incident.

However, no evidence was found for the claims made by Shwetha. Later during interrogation, she confessed to the crime, police added.
