Dept of Posts releases special covers remembering Mangaluru’s historical identities

Mangaluru: The Department of Posts, here, released special postal covers on “Mangaluru Tiles”, and Invention of Khaki Color in Mangaluru” at the Mangaluru Head Post Office.
The special covers were released by Chief Postmaster General (CPMG) Rajendra Kumar S.
Throwing light on the origin of ‘Mangaluru Tiles’ Senior Superintendent of Post Offfices (SSP), Mangaluru Division Shriharsha N said that although the Mangaluru Tiles are exported to several countries and also being used in several states in the country, It originated in Mangaluru.
He later spoke on historical background and significant features of Mangaluru Tiles.
During the occasion 10 picture postcards on ’10 Jina Rathna Bhushanaru’ namely Atthimabbe, Chennabairadevi, Chavundaraya, Janna Rathnakaravarni, Ponna, Shanthala, Rani Abbakkadevi, Ranna and Pampa were released, remembering their contribution towards Kannada language, literature, and land.
Several guests and dignitaries were present during the programme.
