Surathkal: A man was arrested for allegedly assaulting a teacher during a parents’ meeting at a private educational institution near Shamshuddin Circle in Katipalla’s 2nd block on Friday.
The accused has been identified as Mohammed Haneef.
The teacher, identified as Chandrakala a resident of Katipalla, sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Surathkal.
According to the police complaint, the assault took place during a parent-teachers meeting. Chandrakala had reportedly lent money to Haneef’s wife, however, the same was not returned. Chandrakala had asked for the money to be returned.
On Friday, a fight broke out between Chandrakala and Haneef’s wife when a parent-teachers meet was being held at the school. Angered by Chandrakala speaking ill about his child, in the heat of the moment, Haneef assaulted her.
It is gathered that Haneef was employed abroad and returned to Mangaluru just a couple of days ago.
A case has been registered at the Surathkal police station. The accused, meanwhile, has been remanded to judicial custody.
