An auto-rickshaw driver displayed exemplary honesty by returning Rs 12 lakh worth gold ornaments that a woman passenger had forgotten behind in his vehicle.

The auto driver, Prakash Nayak had gone to the petrol pump for filling gas after dropping off a woman passenger at Ombathu Dandige in Kundapur. At this time he noticed the ornaments beneath the passenger seat. He thus went to the police station and handed them the ornaments.

The woman passenger identified as Lalitha realised that she had lost her ornaments upon reaching home. She thus went to the station to register a complaint.

Police sub-inspector Sadashiva Gavaroji contacted Prakash and made him hand over the gold ornaments to Lalitha.
