Days after a former Intelligence Bureau officer died after being hit by a speeding car, police have arrested his neighbors for the intentional murder.
On November 4, the victim RK Kulkarni (82) was hit by a car while he was out for a walk at the Manasagangotri campus of Mysuru university. While the accident seemed like a hit-and-run case initial investigations revealed that it was a planned murder.
The car which was seen in the CCTV footage did not bear any license plate. Mysuru city Police formed four teams to solve the case.
The probe found that the retired IB officer had been murdered over a dispute on three-foot land next to his house.
Briefing reporters about the case, City Police Commissioner Dr Chandragupta said that Kulkarni had lodged a police complaint against his neighbour Madappa and his family as they did not leave a three-feet set back area between the compound and his house. He had also approached Mysuru City Corporation, the city civil court, and also the High Court about the norm violation.
Based on the CCTV footage, the police seized the vehicle used for the crime. They also arrested Madappa’s son Manu and his aide Varun. Police said that Manu had been observing Kulkarni’s routine for nearly a week before committing the crime. On November 4 evening when Kulkarni was taking a stroll on the campus, Manu drove the car and intentionally rammed into him.
Dr Chandragupta lauded the efforts of the police team for solving the case swiftly and declared Rs 50,000 reward.
