Chikkamagaluru: Police, on Monday morning, have reportedly detained ten persons from Hullemane Kundur village in connection with the alleged attack on Mudigere MLA MP Kumaraswamy.
It is said that police went to Hullemane Kundur village of Mudigere taluk early on Monday morning and allegedly arrested ten villagers.
Background
A 45-year-old woman Shobha Amritha had been trampled to death by a wild elephant on Sunday morning when she had gone to the forest to fetch fodder for her cattle. After the death, the angry villagers refused to conduct her funeral and held a protest demanding a permanent solution to the elephant menace.
The crowd got agitated after the MLA arrived late in the evening to listen to their grievances. The MLA was gheraoed and heckled by the angry villagers. Police had rescued him after a minor lathi charge.
Later, the MLA accused the crowd of assaulting him and tearing his clothes. He had also evinced suspicion of a pre-planned conspiracy behind the incident.
Meanwhile, the final rites of the deceased woman has still not been held. There are chances of the protests intensifying after the police action on Monday morning, sources claimed.
