M’luru auto blast: Short circuit caused bomb to explode prematurely?

Mangaluru: The accused Shariq will be interrogated only after the doctor give a go-ahead after his health improves, Manglauru City Police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said.

The health condition of the victim, auto driver Purushotham Poojary, is also improving, he added.

Meanwhile, DK Deputy Commissioner Ravi Kumar M.R. said that a recommendation will be sent to the state government for releasing appropriate compensation to the government will recommend the release of appropriate compensation to the Purushotham Poojary.

Preliminary information from the forensic laboratory suggests a 3-liter capacity cooker vessel, with explosive chemicals and detonators, was used to make the bomb. A short circuit reportedly may have led to the bomb exploding on the autorickshaw rather than at its intended location.

Intelligence lapses, non-functional CCTVs

Although CCTV cameras have been installed at many places in the city, most of them were found to be non-functioning. It is learned that in the wake of these shocking findings, ADGP Alok Kumar has instructed local police to ensure CCTVs are functioning round the clock.

There are complaints that the intelligence department had also failed to work effectively.

Pressure mounts for setting up NIA unit

The recent events have renewed the demand for setting up a unit of National Investigation Agency (NIA), which investigates terror-related cases, in Mangaluru.
