Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada Regional Transport Authority (RTA) has notified the revised autorickshaw fares in the district. The new fare rate will be applicable from December 1.
The minimum fare has been revised from Rs 30 for the first 1.5 km to Rs 35 and the per km charge after that is fixed at Rs 20. Waiting charges would be nil for the first 15 minutes and it would be Rs 5 for the next 15 minutes.
Luggage charges would be free for the first 20 kg, and Rs 5 per 10 kg over that.
Between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., autorickshaw drivers will be allowed to charge one-and-a-half times the meter rate mentioned above.
Earlier, the Dakshina Kannada Regional Transport Authority (RTA) had issued an order regarding the hike in minimum fare with effect from November 15 which was rejected by the Auto Rickshaw Driver-Owners Union.
The auto drivers, and owners opposed the November 15 hike citing that it was lesser than their demand, and had appealed to the RTA to reconsider the fare hike. They had urged to raise the minimum fare to Rs 40 for the first 1.5 km and the per kilometer charge after that to Rs 20. Thereafter, the fare revision was put on hold.
