Mangaluru: A woman has lodged a complaint at the Women’s Police station here alleging that she was forced into converting her religion.

The Hindu woman in her complaint sought action against the accused — Khallel and his relatives, Dr. Jameela, and Aimaan.

According to the complaint, Khaleel befriended the woman when she visited his shop at Bikarnakatte for mobile recharge. Khaleel promised her better employment and took her to his relatives’ place in Kallapu in January 2021. There, the woman alleged, she was forced into converting her religion and made to wear a burkha and change her name to “Ayisha”.

Thereafter, she was taken to different families as domestic help.

The complainant said she was forced to wear a burka and was asked to identify herself as a Muslim when she was working as a maid at the residence Dr. Jameela. When the situation became unbearable, the complainant said she quit her job and returned to her home on October 25.

The complainant further alleged that Aimaan from Bhadravati contacted her over the phone and on Instagram harassed her into loving him.

A case has been registered and the police have taken up the investigation into the allegations.
