Doddaballapura: Thieves broke into the Karnataka Gramin Bank at Hosahalli in the taluk and fled with cash and gold worth around Rs 2 crores.

According to sources, the incident took place on Friday night. It is suspected that the thieves planned to strike the bank knowing that the bank would be closed on Saturday as it falls on the 4th weekend of the month.

The thieves reportedly gained entry into the bank by curring the front shutters with a gas cutter.

Hosahalli police came to know of the break-in and informed the bank staff who were on leave. It is estimated that about Rs 2 crores worth of cash and gold deposits mortgaged at the bank were missing, police sources added.

Meanwhile, the forensic teams and dog squad were called to the scene of the crime to collect evidence.

A case has been registered at the Hosahalli police station.
