Udupi: A road curve in Perampalli continues to haunt motorists in Udupi as many have dubbed it ‘unscientific’ due to the frequent accidents happening there.

On Saturday, November 26, two cars overturned in a matter of hours in Sundarigate, Peramapalli road. The incident took place when the vehicles tried to take a sudden turn on a steep curve on the road.

In the first incident, a Hyundai I20 car, traveling from Manipal to Ambagilu, overturned on the road.  Luckily, 6 youths escaped unharmed.

Within a few hours, a Mahindra XUV car lost control and overturned at the bend. Passengers escaped with minor injuries.

Around 14 accidents have occurred in the same spot but the authorities have not taken any action yet.

The absence of clear signage and warnings is further complicating the situation created by the unscientific bend.

Jagdish Bhatt, AEE, Department of Public Works said “The Assistant Engineer has already been informed to install a sign board and speed breaker at Sundarigate in Perampally.”

Girish, Assistant Engineer, Public Works Department said that the process of installing signboards and speed breakers will be completed within a week.
