Bengaluru: The Kannada Development Authority has appealed to Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur for the broadcast of infotainment channels such as Animal Planet, Net Geo Wild, and BBC Earth in the Kannada language.

Minister for Energy, Kannada & Culture Sunil Kumar, in his letter to Thakur dated November 25 pointed out that these channels are being dubbed and broadcast in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu languages. The viewers from these regions are able to enjoy the episodes in their languages.

Technological advances have made it possible for these channels to cater to Kannada-speaking audiences by dubbing their episodes in Kannada. Pointing out that Kannada has been accorded a classical language status and is spoken by over six crore people, the KDA urged for the broadcast of these channels with Kannada dubbing.
