Mangaluru: Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada Ravi Kumar M R said that the restrictions on the use of loudspeakers have been eased for the Kateel Yakshagana Mela in the district until 12 a.m.

The use of loudspeakers after 10 p.m. was prohibited by the Supreme Court.

The Kateel Durgaparameshwari Prasadita Yakshagana Mandali’s devotees had submitted a memorandum seeking relaxation on the use of loudspeakers after 10 pm.

The DC said the decision was taken after discussions with Kateel temple authorities and devotees.

He said, “I held a meeting with the Kateel temple administration and the devotees and decided to lift the restrictions till 12:00 am for Yakshagana shows.”

“Also, I will make sure to take a suitable decision if I get any suggestions in favor of relaxing the use of loudspeakers for Daivaradhane or other religious events at night,” he added.
