Hike in toll at Hejamady: Status quo to remain until further orders

Udupi: A meeting of stakeholders was held regarding the revision of toll at Hejamady notified by NHAI after the merger with Surathkal toll gate.
During the meeting, attended by elected representatives and ministers in the state government, it was decided to maintain the status quo and that further decisions should be taken after discussion with the Chief Minister.
People’s representatives of the district expressed their opposition to the collection of Suratkal toll fee at Hejamadi.
Minister Sunil Kumar and District In-charge Minister S Angara participated via online.
The next decision will be taken after a meeting with the Chief Minister. District in-charge minister S. asked the officials of National Highways Authority to maintain the status quo till then. Angara instructed.
The district representatives demanded the National Highways Authority to continue toll collection exemption for local vehicles (KA 20) and resolve the issue of toll merger at the national level as soon as possible.
MLA K. Raghupathi Bhatt, Lalaji R. Mendon, Backward Classes Commission Chairman Jayaprakash Hegde, District Collector Kurma Rao, SP Hakay Akshay Machindra, Additional District Collector Veena B.N. attended the in the meeting.
District Collector fumes at NHAI officials
During the meeting District Collector, Kurma Rao lashed out at the officials of the National Highways Authority for coming late to the emergency meeting. He questioned whether it would be possible to come to the meeting on time or not.
