Puttur: The Jan Seva Kendra on Old Taluk Office Road here was sealed on Monday after the district administration received complaints that voter ID cards were being distributed there without requisite authorization.
A team of officers led by Assistant Commissioner (AC) Girish Nandan and Tehsildar Nisarga Priya raided the center.
A resident of Puttur who had lost his voter identity card came to the Jan Seva Kendra in question for information on getting a new card issued. The staff at the center allegedly issued him a new card. However, he grew suspicious of the authenticity of the card issued, the matter was reported to the election branch of the taluk office.
On further verification, the officials found that the identity card had been issued without permission.
The AC said that no external centers have been given the authority to issue voter ID cards.
However, the owner of the Jan Seva Kendra refuted the claims that the center was illegally issuing voter ID cards. We have furnished all the information requested to the officials.
