CM Bommai announces Group A jobs to Olympic, Paralympic athletes

Bengaluru: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has announced Group A category job placement to the Olympics and Paralympics medal winners.

Addressing the gathering at the Ekalavya Award and other awards distribution ceremony to the athletes at Raj Bhavan on Tuesday, December 6 he said, “We will make sure that the Olympic and Paralympic degree holder athletes who have won medals will be allotted Group A jobs through the direct recruitment process. We will pass a resolution regarding this, in the next state cabinet meeting.”

“Athletes who have won medals in Asian Games and Commonwealth Games will be allotted Group B, and other athletes will be allotted Group C jobs. Karnataka is the only state to have implemented the policy of providing jobs to athletes”, he added.

Speaking about the preparations of the athletes, Bommai said, “Already 75 athletes are undergoing training from August 15, this year, for the upcoming Paris Olympics. Necessary infrastructural facilities and qualified trainers have been deployed at the cost of Rs. 10 lakhs. Looking at the requirement, additional funds will be released. We want our athletes to achieve glory at Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, and Olympics.”

Informing about the new policy towards youth empowerment he said, “Towards youth empowerment and sports a policy will be framed soon. A 2 percent reservation has already been implemented in the State Home Department towards providing jobs to athletes.”

Meanwhile, Bommai also emphasized rural talents and gave a call to encourage them to involve in sporting activities.

Governor of Karnataka, Thawar Chand Gehlot, State Minister of Youth Empowerment and Sports, Narayana Gowda, President of Karnataka Olympics Association, Govindaraj, and others were present.
