Bantwal: Thieves decamp with cash, valuables from ex-GP member’s residence

Bantwal: Thieves decamped with cash and valuables worth Rs 12.40 lakhs from a house at Sajipanadu village in Bantwal here on December 13 when its occupants were away.

The theft took place at the residence of S Abbas, a resident of Nishabagh and a former Gram Panchayat member.

A complaint in this regard was lodged by Abbas’s son Mohammed Najeeb.

The complainant said that the family had gone to visit his mother-in-law’s residence at around 2.30 pm on December 13 afternoon. The theft came to light when they returned home at around 8.10 pm.

Reportedly, the thieves entered the house after breaking open the back door on the first floor of their residence. Najeeb’s mother had kept around Rs 1.40 lakh cash in a purse in the cupboard locker. Apart from the cash they decamped with gold jewelry — 3 bangles weighing 24 grams, 3 rings weighing 8 grams each, 7-Pawan gold chain, a necklace, a bangle weighing 4-Pawan, and other valuables valuing around Rs 11 lakh from the residence.
