Bengaluru: CCB police have arrested an accused who allegedly peddled drugs in the guise of a delivery boy for popular food delivery apps.

The accused has been identified as Abhijit (28), a native of Bihar. Another accused, also from Bihar, is absconding, police said.

Police said narcotics worth Rs 4 lakhs including 3 kg of Ganja (marijuana), and 12 LSD strips weighing 14 grams were confiscated from the delivery bag he was carrying.

Police said Abhijit used to work for food delivery companies Swiggy and Zomato until recently. After quitting his job, instead of returning the company-issued merchandise, he kept the branded uniform and delivery bag with him.

Abhijit’s partner allegedly carried out his illegal business online. Abhijit transported the narcotic drugs dressed as a food delivery boy to the customers suggested by him, police said.

Abhijit’s partner would get the location and identifying details from customers to facilitate delivery. For every delivery made, Abhijit received commissions, police added.

CCB police said Abhijit claimed he just delivered packets to people at a particular location suggested by his partner. He apparently neither knew he was carrying drugs nor the identity of the customers, but police are verifying these claims.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered at the Whitefield police station under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Another arrested for importing and selling drugs from Nigeria:

Bengaluru: In another drug-related case, CCB Police have arrested a man on the charges of selling drugs.

The accused, Shibu Chacko (34) from Kerala, worked as a screener at Air India Sats at the Airport here. Police said He procured drugs from a Nigerian and sold them for money.

Narcotics including MDMA crystals and 13 LSD strips, and a mobile phone totally worth Rs 5 lakhs were confiscated from him, police said.
