Belagavi: In the wake of the election for the office of Chairman of the Vidhan Parishad, the BJP members of the Parishad held a meeting under the leadership of Speaker Kota Srinivasa Poojary on Monday.
During the meeting of BJP MLC’s in the room adjacent to the Parishad hall, the decision of the BJP to back Basavaraj Horatti for the post of Chairman was conveyed.
Horatti is expected to submit his nomination papers by 11 am on Tuesday.
Horatti, who was a JDS leader, had resigned from the Chairman’s post and the House this year in March, before switching over to the BJP. Contesting on a BJP ticket, he was re-elected to the Vidhana Parishad in June.
I am not part of the party
Before the meeting began, Horatti visited H. Vishwanath and asked him to join the meeting. It is said that Vishwanath responded by saying that he was not under the ambit of the party now. But he is said to have assured to vote for Horatti in the election for the office of Chairman.
