Huge agricultural fair to be held during International Scouts Guides Jamboree at Moodbidri

Moodbidri: An agricultural fair will also be held during the International Scout Guides Cultural Jamboree, which will be organized from December 21 to 27.
The Jamboree aims to introduce the agricultural practices and the lifestyle of farmers to about 50,000 students from across the country who will be participating in the event.
4 acres reserved for vegetables
Out of a total area of 12 acres, 4 acres are reserved for vegetable crops only. Preparations have begun about three to four months ago. Pumpkin, sugar beet, gourd, bitter gourd, cucumber, eggplant (brinjal), peppers, and so on have been grown on the fields.
Samplings of about 550 traditional rice varieties, 70 types of bananas, 40 types of yams and tubers, and 20 types of nuts, have been grown. Apart from these about 200 varieties of medicinal plants will also be on display.
Moreover, various flowering plants including roses, sunflowers, dahlia, etc will also be showcased. Agricultural machinery, implements, and handicrafts will be displayed in nearly 600 stalls.
Huge kite for Jamboree!
A kite demonstration will be held by Team Mangalore in the World Cultural Jamboree and a huge kite has been prepared exclusively for the event.
Indian traditional kite made of umbrella cloth measuring 50 feet in height and 16 feet in width is being prepared.
The work of putting the finishing touches to the kite was done at Gokula Kalyana Mantapa on Monday by members of Team Mangalore and artists. Traditional and folk motifs have been drawn on the kite.
Though this huge kite may not be flown, Dr M. Mohan Alva of Alvas Institutions said he intends to keep it on display to commemorate the Jamboree.
