Moodabidri: Int’l Cultural Jamboree ends on a high note!

Moodabidri: Six days after its inauguration, the massive International Cultural Jamboree of the Scouts and Guides ended on a high note here on Monday, December 26.
For the past week, campers from across the globe congregated at the 150-acre area at Alva’s College campus here to partake in the event that was a confluence of adventure, fun, and cultural activities. It was the first time that the Scouts and Guides Jamboree was held at this scale, with more than 60,000 students participating in the activities planned.
Though the final curtains for student-participatory programs were drawn on Monday evening, however, the cultural programs will be held till Tuesday night. Kishore, a student from Chikmagalur who participated int he Jamboree, “We came here with many dreams. The organizers have exceeded our expectations. Everything is a new experience.”
Jamboree had exhibitions, activities, adventures, and more on record proportions. The forest, flower show got at least 25,000 visitors every day. 84 varieties of vegetables, 550 varieties of cereals, 450 agricultural stalls formed the attraction of the agriculture fair. The science fair, which showcased science models form across the state, saw a footfall of 15,000 visitors every day.
Alva’s campus was bedazzled by the ornamental lights and displays on all 7 days of the event.
Elaborate arrangements were made for the stay of the guests and participants. As many as 48,570 students were accommodated in 27 hostels. 380 rooms are arranged locally for artists, and more than 2 thousand volunteers were housed at various hostels of the college.
Cleanliness, discipline, and punctuality were the hallmarks of the event. For this wonderful arrangement, appreciation poured in for Dr. Mohan Alva from all quarters for his leadership and organizational abilities. The collaborative effort of various schools, colleges, and associations including Alva’s College, led to the success of this international cultural jamboree.
Addressing a press conference at Alva’s Vidyagiri, Dr. Mohan Alva said that successfully conducting International Jamboree in Moodabidire is a matter of pride. Similarly, building Yuvashakti Kendra as a continuation should be taken up on priority.
“Our district has enough resources, there are many institutions. We have no shortage of places either. There is a need for a permanent campus for holding where Scouts and Guides, NCC, and other youth activities. For that, there is a need to build a Youth Shakti Center in Pilikula, Mangaluru where one thousand people can stay on campus,” he said and sought cooperation and donations from philanthropists for establishing the same.
