Bengaluru: The state’s first electric KSRTC ‘EV Power Plus’ bus hit the roads on Saturday.
Transport Minister B Sriramulu flagged off the new bus at an event organized at the KSRTC office here on Saturday. He said that the electric bus will ply between Bengaluru and Mysuru.
Once delivered, more electric buses will operate from Bengaluru to Mysuru, Madikeri, Virajpet, Davanagere, Shivamogga, and Chikkamagaluru. Currently, electric charging stations have been set up in Bengaluru and Mysuru. In the future, all the electric buses will be painted red, he added.
Sriramulu said that 50 inter-city air-conditioned electric buses will be operated under the Electric FAME-2 project in the coming days. The inter-corporation transfer list of 1,013 employees was released and minister Sriramulu symbolically handed over the transfer letters to three staff.
In addition, an internal journal ‘Transport Sampada’, which covers the activities of the Corporation, was also released.
The eco-friendly ‘EV Power Plus’ bus service, which is being jointly launched by MEIL and KSRTC, has the capacity to cover a distance of
300 km on a two-and-a-half hour charge. The bus has a fully air-conditioned system and state-of-the-art technology such as a regenerative braking system has been installed which recharges batteries by taking advantage of inertia during braking.
The bus comes with attractive interiors with amenities such as a mobile charging point, and two TV sets for entertainment. The overall bus has a 43+2 seating capacity.
