Ballari: Former minister G. Janardhana Reddy, who recently floated a separate political party, is preparing to field candidates in about 102 constituencies in the next Karnataka Assembly elections.

Reddy had played a vital role in the BJP wresting victory in the Congress stronghold of Ballari. However, Reddy broke his ties with the BJP and recently announced the formation of his “Kalyana Rajya Pragati Paksha” (KRP). His wife Lakshmi Aruna has flagged off the campaigning from a house of a member of the Kuruba community in Benakallu village. Janardhana Reddy is scheduled to arrive in Gangavati, to take out a grand procession with about 10,000 persons.

Sources said that Janardhana Reddy will be contesting from the Gangavati constituency. His close friend, OMC MD B.V. Srinivasa Reddy will also contest either from Koppala, Raichur, or Kalaburagi. KRP will field candidates in 64 constituencies in the North Karnataka region and 38 in South Karnataka. Reddy will announce candidates for 25 constituencies in North Karnataka on January 16, sources added.

A, B category

Sources also claimed that Janardhana Reddy has divided the 102 constituencies from which his party will field candidates into two categories, A and B.  Reddy has done a survey of all these areas, they said.

Manifesto expected on February 14

Sources said Janardhana Reddy will release the party manifesto on February 14 in Bellary. It is said that he will get permission from the court for doing so.

According to insiders, Reddy has canceled the big program that was supposed to be organized in Bellary on his birthday, i.e. January 11. He will release the list of candidates for 25 constituencies in North Karnataka on January 16. Many leaders have already joined Reddy’s party and it is being said that more leaders will join after Sankranti.
