Two stallions at Kunigal Stud Farm die after being attacked by swarm of bees

Kunigal: In a tragic incident, two seeded breeding horses at the Kunigal Stud Farm after being attacked by a swarm of bees, causing a huge financial loss.

The 10-year-old male horse from Ireland Sanus Per Aquam, and the 15-year-old male horse from the USA Air Support died in the bee attack.

The incident occurred on Wednesday. As usual, the two horses were allowed to graze at the paddock but at around 1 pm, suddenly they were attacked by a huge swarm of bees. Stung by the bees the horses collapsed. Seeing the horses in distress, the staff at the stud farm informed the veterinarians.

However, despite the best efforts of the veterinarians, the horses could not be saved. Sanus Per Aquam died on Thursday at around 10 pm whereas Air Support breathed his last on Friday morning.

Air Support had retired from racing after an eventful career. According to Horse Racing Nation, Air Support has raced at Belmont Park, Churchill Downs, Colonial Downs, Keeneland, Monmouth Park, Pimlico Race Course, Saratoga, Woodbine with wins at Belmont Park, Colonial Downs, Keeneland, Saratoga. His stakes wins include wins in the 2012 Bowling Green (G2), 2011 Virginia Derby (G2), 2011 Transylvania (G3), and the 2010 Pilgrim (G3).

URBB which runs the Kunigal Stud Farms had procured the horses about 6 years ago for breeding purposes.
