Mandya: Famer dies after being crushed under wheels of bullock cart during race

Mandya: A farmer here was crushed under the wheels of a bullock cart during a race held in Chikka Mandya village on Sunday, January 8. A 12-year-old boy was also injured in the incident.

The deceased has been identified as Nagaraju (55), a farmer leader from Keelara village. The deceased was actively involved in the farmers’ association, sources said.

A 12-year-old boy from Hulivana village was seriously injured and has been admitted to the district hospital in the city.

The incident took place on the second day of the 8th annual inter-state-level double bullock cart race organized by Sri Hallikeswara Boreshwara and Rythumitra Balaga at Chikka Mandya village. A huge crowd had gathered to watch the spectacular, face-paced races. It is learned that no permissions were obtained for the event.

A video of the incident has gone viral on social media. The clip shows one of the bullock carts participating in the race moving toward the audience and the crowd runs helter-skelter in a hurry to avoid being hit.
