Kottigehara: As the Karnataka Assembly elections are nearing, hopefuls desirous of getting a party ticket have intensified their efforts. In the Mudigere Assembly Constituency of Chikkamagaluru district, however, the competition between Congress ticket aspirants had led to a fissure in the party cadre.

In a rebellious move, Congress ticket aspirants in Mudigere held separate meetings in opposition to former minister Motamma and her daughter Nayana Motamma. Five such meetings have been held within a month.

Nayana Motamma, who is said to be closer to KPCC president D K Shivakumar, is one of the main aspirants for the Congress ticket in Mudigere. However, some party workers are vehemently opposing Motamma and her family continuing to get the ticket. If Nayana Motamma is given a ticket, Congress is certain to lose, they claimed at a meeting held recently and said the dynastic politics of the Motamma family should end.

At a meeting held at Gonibidu Hobali, where local leaders and Gram Panchayat members of Congress participated, it was decided to appeal to the Congress high command not to give the ticket to Nayana Motamma.
