Wild elephant electrocuted to death; case filed

Gundlupet (Chamarajanagar): In a tragic incident, a female elephant died after coming in contact with an electric wire at a farm in Doddabaragi village of Hebballa patrol in Hediyala sub-division of Bandipur Tiger Reserve.

The elephant, estimated to be aged between 25 and 30 years old,  was electrocuted to death in the fields of a farmer named Gopal of Doddabaragi village.

On receiving the information, forest officials and staff visited the spot and carried out an inspection. Later, the matter was brought to the notice of the departmental superiors.

Bandipur Conservator of Forests Dr Ramesh Kumar and ACF K Paramesh visited the spot. Veterinary officer Wasim Mirza conducted the autopsy on the elephant. Some parts were then sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory, Mysuru for further analysis. Thereafter, the body was buried in a pit.

A case has been registered against the landowner under the Forest Act in this regard.
