Mangaluru: State Congress Manifesto Committee Chairman Dr. G. Parameshwara said the party has learnt its lesson from the earlier election and will give tickets only to absolutely eligible candidates.

Speaking at a press conference in the city, Parameshwara said “Last time we did not expect BJP to stoop down and hijack Congress MLAs to join them. Now we have learned our lesson. Each candidate will be analyzed and tickets will only be given to those who are found eligible.”

Further, he said that neither BJP will come back to power in the state, nor will there be a coalition government. “Congress will certainly come to power,” he asserted.

Tickets for competent even if they don’t apply

There is no rule that tickets are only for those who have applied, he said, and added that those who are eligible will be given tickets even if they have not applied.

He further said that tickets can not be given to anyone, just because someone joined Congress from BJP or any other party. Senior Congress leaders have decided to give tickets to eligible candidates depending on the assessment of the local situation.

Parameshwara said that there is a wave of anti-incumbency. The state government is mired in corruption and is not responding to people’s problems. This led to frustration among the masses. In such conditions, Congress alone is capable of ruling in the state and there is no doubt it will win more than 113 seats this time.
