Mangaluru: Former MLA Mohiuddin Bawa criticized MLA Dr. Y. Bharath Shetty and claimed that the politician is deceiving the people by spreading false information and touting all of the development projects done under the previous government.

Speaking while addressing a press conference at the district Congress office on Wednesday, February 1 Bava said, “The Congress administration approved Rs 58 crore for a six-lane road from Surathkal junction to the temple in Ganeshpura while I was the MLA in the year 2017–18. However, we could not begin the work due to the elections. Later, the present MLA terminated the tender as the government changed. Despite issuing a second tender, the project was not launched. The project was limited to  Rs 18 crore rupees and around Rs 40 crore of the project budget was transferred to other local road projects. Now, the MLA is deceiving the public by putting up banners and flex boards claiming that the road work has been finished during his tenure.”

He further said, “The late Oscar Fernandes who took a special interest in the development of the fishing community, and the state minister for fisheries at the time, Abhayachandra Jain, had created a plan to build a Jetty in Kulai. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari laid the project’s foundation after the government changed. However, the work has not begun”

“The Congress administration had sanctioned Rs 41 crore for the Surathkal market project during my tenure. Around Rs 14 crore worth of work was finished. For the same project, the current MLA has requested an additional Rs 35 crore in funding. This shows the current MLA’s failure,” he added.
