Mangaluru: City Police commissionerate collected a total of Rs 5.25 lakhs fine on February 4 and February 5.

The collection was made after the government announced a 50 percent discount on traffic violation fines.

On February 4 the police collected Rs 3.83 lakhs from 1,522 cases and Rs 1,42,850 from 513 cases on February 5.

Last week the state government had announced a 50 percent rebate if the fine is settled before February 11. This is a one-time action to get rid of the backlog of unresolved cases.

The Transport Department’s Under Secretary, Pushpa V.S., issued a directive to this effect on February 2. E-challan cases are those that are lodged when infractions are discovered by traffic cameras.
