Mangaluru: An FIR has been filed against the management board, in connection with the nursing college food poisoning case reported in the city on Monday, February 6.

The case was filed by District Surveillance Officer (DSO) Dr Jagadeesh.

A total of 137 nursing and paramedical students staying at a private hostel here have fallen sick due to food poisoning after having dinner, police sources said on Tuesday.

The students have been admitted to various hospitals in the city, city police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said.

The students complained of stomach ache, vomiting, and diarrhoea and were admitted to hospitals on Monday night. Water contamination is said to be the reason for the food poisoning, sources said.

Most of the students recover

In the meantime, most of the students who fell ill due to food poisoning have recovered and have been discharged from the hospitals, the health department officials said on Tuesday.

Only 38 students are currently recuperating in the hospitals, the officials said, and added that all others have been released.

There are a total of 782 students staying at the hostel. A team of specialist doctors has been deployed in the hostel as a precautionary measure, they added.
