Kundapura: Policeman found dead; suicide suspected

Kundapura: A police constable posted in the city was found dead at a beach near Kasarakodu Eco Beach in Honnavar taluk on Tuesday. the death is suspected to be a suicide.

The deceased, Rama Gowda (32), the son of Nagesh Gowda of Nadu Maskeri village of Uttara Kannada’s Kumta Taluk, had been serving as a constable at the Kundapura police station for the last 5 years.

He had been absent from duty since February 2 without informing his superiors or his colleagues.  His mobile phone was also found switched off for the past 5 days. A team of cops was on his search, sources said.

Gowda was found hanging from a tree near the eco beach at Kasarakodu on Tuesday morning. It is learnt that his bag was also found nearby.

Following this, Kundapur SI Eerayya and other personnel rushed to the spot. A case of unnatural death has been registered at the Honnavara police station.

It is suspected that Rama Gowda may have taken his own life, however, the exact reason is still unclear. According to sources, he remained aloof and did not share his problems with anyone. He reportedly also had health issues for some time. There are rumours that he had taken loans for online betting, and had lost the money.

Sources said a death note was recovered.
