Attack by TN fishermen: Union decides to file police complaint

Mangaluru: It has been decided to lodge a police complaint regarding the attack on local fishermen by fishermen from Tamil Nadu at deep sea off the coast of Kanyakumari recently.

This decision was made during a meeting of trawl boat union leaders was held on Monday here.

During the meeting, several boat owners complained about the damages suffered by boats in the attack. Some of the boats suffered damage to the tune of Rs 15-20 lakh by the “illegal and unprovoked” attack by Tamil Nadu fishermen, they said.

The boat owners submitted a written complaint to the union which will be forwarded to the police commissioner, and the senior officials of the fisheries department. A request will be made to take appropriate action, Union President Chetan told Udyavani. “We will take further decisions only after this,” he added.
