Manjeshwar: Extortion gang intimidates police with pistol; 4 arrested

Manjeshwar: A gang involved in extortion reportedly hijacked two lorries and intimidated the police by wielding pistols to evade arrest. Four members of a gang involved were arrested for intimidating policemen.
Police had received information that a gang wielding pistols was collecting ‘hafta’ from lorry drivers. The gang had threatened two lorry drivers and hijacked the lorries in the Bejja area of Miyapadav.
On receiving information, a police team from Manjeshwar Police station led by Inspector Santosh was dispatched to chase the stolen lorries.
The stolen lorry was intercepted when it reached Kommangala Kurudapadav. The suspects tried to flee in an Alto car that arrived at the spot in the nick of time. A standoff ensued, and the gang members tried to escape by threatening police with pistols. However, the police managed to get the upper hand and managed to arrest 4 of the seven involved.
A pistol and 4 bullets were recovered from the arrested accused. The Alto car has been seized.
The arrested accused have been identified as Rakesh Kishore Bhavisyar (30) of Mukunda Nagarof Nashik Maharashtra, Mohammad Sarfan (25) of Koolur Chigurupade, Hyderali, and Sayaf (22) of Kalai House near Uppala Railway Gate.
Police said the ring leader of the gang, Rahim (25) of Manjeshwar Kadambaru Meiyapada, managed to flee.
