Kadaba police arrested seven persons for allegedly pelting stones at the forest department and police officials and damaging their vehicles near Mandekere in Kobaru following the capture of a wild tusker here on Thursday night.

The forest department officials were in the process of relocating the captured elephant to Dubare elephant camp when a few people stopped their vehicles and demanded that the officials capture the other elephants that have been wreaking havoc in the area and relocate all the wild tuskers at once.

Forest officials tried to explain to the villagers that the captured elephant cannot be kept captive on a truck for a long time. As the accused refused to listen to them, the forest authorities called the police.

The police arrived at the scene and tried to resolve the matter but the accused began pelting stones at the authorities. Police vehicles and a jeep attached to the forest department were damaged in the stones pelting.

A case of obstruction of duty and damage to government vehicles has been registered against the accused.
